	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award)  Dr. Abbott has been the G.P. Wilder professor of Botany at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa since 1984.  She is also Professor Emeritus of Biology at Stanford University, where she taught and conducted research for more than 30 years.  She is an internationally known botanist whose research focuses on the study of seaweeds. She has published more than one-hundred papers and six books on a wide variety of marine organisms, biological processes, and ethnobotanical phenomena. Dr. Abbott's service to UH includes being a past member of the Faculty Board of Editors for the UH Press and the Faculty Board for the Manoa Writing Program.  She received a BA in Botany from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1941, an  MS in Botany from the University of Michigan in 1942, and a PhD in Botany from the University of California, Berkeley in 1950.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award)  Dr. Chun is the President of the Kamehameha Schools. Formerly, he served as Director of Public Works and chief engineer for the City and County of Honolulu and as Associate Professor in the School of Public Health and the College of Engineering at UHM from 1970 to 1981. Currently he serves as a non-compensated faculty member clinical professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and Research Affiliate at the Water Resources Research Center.  In 1993, Dr. Chun was the recipient of the O`o Award for career accomplishment and community contributions from the Hawai'i Business and Professional Association.  He received a MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1968.  He also received a BS in Civil Engineering in 1966 and a PhD in Environmental Health Engineering in 1970 from the University of Kansas.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award) Dr. Fruean was the first person of Samoan ancestry to graduate from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.  He is currently a family practice doctor at KPT Medical Clinic. He is active in numerous Samoan community support organizations, such as the Samoan Service Providers Association and Fetu Ao, both which address work force and health issues.  Dr. Fruean received his MD from JABSOM in 1977 and a BS in Chemistry and Physics from Church College of Hawai'i in 1965.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award) Kim is retired Chancellor of the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges.  He is former Associate Dean of the College of Continuing Education and Community Service at Manoa and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs.  He is charter member of the President's Club. In 1983, he was named the University's first chancellor emeritus.  Kim was the guiding force in raising funds for the Center for Korean Studies, and he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Myong Ji University of Seoul for outstanding contributions to Korean Studies in Korea and Hawai'i in 1981.  Kim received a BA in Government from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1950 and a MPA in Public Administration from Syracuse University in 1961.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award)  Dr. Nagtalon-Miller is former instructor at the College of Education and instructor of French at UH Manoa.  She served as an education specialist for Operation Manong at UH Manoa and later in the School of Public Health as an expert on the effect of language and culture on people's practices and beliefs about health and well-being.  She was the first administrator of the Hawai'i Department of Education's federally funded Bilingual/Bicultural Education Program. Dr. Nagtalon-Miller received a BEd in English and Music in 1951 and a MA in French in 1967 from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.  She received a PhD in Philosophy of Education and Foreign Language Education from Ohio State University in 1972.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award) Dr. Sogi is partner at Kelley Drye & Warren in New York City and in the Tokyo office of Tsuchiya Sakuragi & Sogi.  He is the recipient of the Order of Sacred Treasures, gold with rosettes from the Japanese government.  He established the Sogi Foundation, through which three or four graduates of Konawaena High School each year are awarded scholarship grants.  Dr. Sogi received a BA in Economics and Business from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1949 and a JD from Fordham University School of Law in 1952.",
	"(UH Distinguished Alumni Award) Taguchi is President and Chief Executive Officer of the engineering form of M & E Pacific.  In 1994 he was named Hawai'i State Professional Engineer of the Year. Taguchi is past President and Vice President of the University of Hawai'i Alumni Association and is member of the UH Foundation President's Club.  He received a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1954.",

She was a consultant to First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton in the development of the nation's universal health care plan.  She received a BA in Political Science and Sociology and MSW from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1969 and 1972, respectively.
